Mönlam

The focus is on the profound Chöd practice with its altruistic and healing prayers and the wish to offer the best for the benefit of all living beings and to remember the wisdom of charity – the foundation of all good human qualities.

Our Venerable Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche has lived in Switzerland for 55 years. During this time he has done a lot for his Tibetan compatriots as well as for Western people interested in Buddhism. In the Tulku lineage of the Lodrös, all six Tulkus were masters of the Chöd tradition. Today’s Lodrö Rinpoche is a rare holder of all four lineages of Chöd practiced among the Gelugpas, as well the forth linage Tsogle Chöd, which is also even prevalent among the majority of Kagyüs and Nyingmapas.

He wants to bring the Chöd Mönlam, as practised by the Gelugpas with His Holiness Khalkha Jetsün Dampa Rinpoche in Mongolia, to the West in its original sense. Intensive meditations and recitation prayers will be held daily for seven days, and Chöd practitioners as well as listeners are welcome to attend. Individual talks will be open to all. At the end Lodrö Rinoche will grant an Initiation of Gyälthang Chöd – as well as explain the practice of Buddha Amithayus.

The focus will be on the Gyältang, Wensa and the Shiva Lamsab Chöd traditions, Tsog, as well as the practices of Prajnaparamita, Tara, Vajrayogini and Trögm Nagmo.

If there is great interest, we will hold the event in a tent in the immediate vicinity of Ganden Chökhor outdoors, otherwise it will take place in the large meditation room of the centre. For active practitioners, a transmission and introduction to the chökhor practice by a qualified teacher is a prerequisite.

Prayers are dedicated to world peace, including individual sick people and people in difficult life situations, individuals, families, etc. Names are taken in the traditional Buddhist context up to 1 week before the start of the monlam in Ganden Chökhor. They will be read out and dedicated each day before the prayers.
