‘sky-opening initiation’ and commentary of the Chod practice according to the ear-whispered, peaceful dakini tradition – Shiwa Lamsab, Initiation of White Heruka Chakrasamvara Longlive Practice and as the final of the course we offer a Trönma Nagmo long Live Puja for Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche.
(further Interested students can also individualy register for the Vajrasattwa Initiation)
The tradition of the ear-whispered, peaceful dakinis, Schiwa Lamsab, goes back to the 13th century and especially to the master Jamyang Gonpo, a student of Machig Labdron’s son Gyalwa Thondrup. Jamyang Gonpo himself saw Machig Labdron several times in visions. This lineage was founded by Jamyang Gonpo and by Machig’s son and grandson, together with other pioneers of the Chod practice of the time.
Chod is a unique, holistic practice within Tibetan Buddhism using meditation, visualisation, sound and rhythm to train body, language and mind at the same time. Chod means to sever selfish, habitual thinking and behaviour, so that the natural openness, clarity and sensitivity of our mind can manifest.
Lodro Tulku Rinpoche is one of the few qualified teachers in the world who can transmit this lineage. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama himself said that this lineage should be practiced so it can flourish again as it once did.
In the morning Rinpoche will give explanations on the practice and in the afternoon, participants will practice the drumming, the original dakini melodies, and the visualisations. Each evening, the group will practice the Schiwa Lamsab Chod together with Lodro Rinpoche.
In the Ganden Chokhor meditation centre, under the direction of Lama Lodro Rinpoche, multi-year training courses in the various transmission lineages of Chod (Wensa, Schiwa Lamsab, Gyalthang and Tsogle) are offered.
Conditions for new students:
If you have already received an initiation into anuttarayoga tantra such as Chakrasamvara, Vajrayogini, Vajravarahi, Simhamukha, Kalachakra or similar:
In this case, you only need the permission of Lodro Tulku Rinpoche to participate.
Please send us a short statement when you received the initiation and from whom. If you have a teacher, then it would be good to know if he or she supports your participation in the Chod retreat. You can inform us either per e-mail or telephone and we will pass on this information to Rinpoche. We will let you know his answer as soon as possible.
Physical and mental stability are important prerequisites for this retreat.
If you do not have an initiation into anuttarayoga tantra:
Anuttarayoga tantra is highest, most profound tantra class and Chod belongs to this class. In order to receive maximum benefit from the practice, the following preparatory steps are advisable.
One of the initial steps is, to receive a Kriyayoga tantra initiation and practicing the sadhana – a recited meditation practice.
Physical and mental stability are required.
The following requirements apply to attending a Anuttara Yogatantra initiation for the first time:
- Knowledge about Lamrim (Introduction by a competent teacher or studying with books)
- Taking the Bodhisattva Vows and the Tantra Vows (part of the initiation)
- Permission from Lodro Tulku Rinpoche (applies to all Annutarayoga initiations by Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche for new students)
If you want to practice Chod in its classic form with all the benefits, committments are part of it. These are largely a matter of habit and can best be compared with the daily practice of a musician. The Chod Meditation is a wonderful and extremely powerful method.
Please let us know whether you already meet the requirements. Otherwise we will be happy to advise you on how to proceed.
If you are a beginner of chod or new in our sangha, please contact Lama Lodro Tulku Rinpoche: dharma@ganden.ch)
