His Eminence Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was recognized as the rebirth of the legendary master Zongrul Jetsün Lobsang Tsöndru Rinpoche, who greatly contributed to the spread of Buddhism in the West. His predecessor was in Switzerland several times in the 1970s and 1980s, where he visited and taught in various places. In the monastery of Rikon he gave many initiations and lectures. Many people interested in Buddhism could meet him. He was a great scholar and respected chöd master. The predecessor died in 1984 in the Ganden Monastery in Mundgod/South India.
His Eminence the current Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was born in 1985 in Kulu, North India, studied and teaches mainly at Ganden Shartse Monastery in South India. Rinpoche is very familiar with Western culture. As a child he lived for some time in the USA and attended a Montessori school. Rinpoche speaks very good English.
His Eminence Kyabje Zong Rinpoche is now the deputy spiritual director of the Tibet House in Frankfurt, where he also teaches twice a year. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama greatly appreciates him and his knowledge and sees him as a bearer of hope for the generation of young Tibetan Lamas and Rinpoches.
