Schiwa Lamsab Chod Retreat

“Heaven opening initiation” of the Chod practice according to the Schiwa Lamsab tradition

The tradition of Schiwa Lamsab/Oral Tradition of Dakini dates back to the 13th century and to Master Jamyang Gonpo, a disciple of Machig Labdrön’s son Gyälwa Thondrup.

Jamyang Gonpo himself has seen Machig Labdrön in visions several times. This lineage became a union of different masters like him, the son, as well as the grandson of Machig Labdrön and further pioneers of the Chod practice at that time.

The Venerable Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche is one of the few, if not the only, teachers worldwide to pass this lineage on. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama himself said that this lineage should be practiced and blossom again as it once did. Rinpoche explains the practice in the morning and in the afternoon the participants learn/practice the drumming and the old melodies of text visualization.

In the evening, the group practices this chod practice together with Lodrö Rinpoche.

Chod is a unique holistic practice system within Tibetan Buddhism, which uses meditation, visualization, sound and rhythm to train body, speech and mind simultaneously. Chod means “cutting off” the selfish, habitual thinking and behavior so that the natural openness, clarity and sensitivity of our mind can manifest itself. In Tibet, advanced chod practitioners have been able to support, heal and even fight epidemics of mental and physical illnesses. Under the direction of Lama Lodrö Rinpoche, the Ganden Chökhor Meditation Centre offers a multi-year training course on the transmission lines of Chod (Wensa, Schiwa Lamsab, Gyälthang and Tsogle).

Wisdom Rising: Journey into the Mandala of the Empowered Feminine – Mandala of the Five Dakinis

In this retreat we delve into the five Dakini families and the transformation of the five emotions into the five wisdoms. This unique retreat was designed with the goal of reconciling emotional work with spiritual transformation. We explore the emotions through various methods, such as Time travel, partner work, creative design, sounds and movement. We experience the potential of these energies to transform into embodied wisdom.

You receive the transmission for practice with the Mandala of the Five Dakinis, and this profound practice forms the framework for each day within the mandala, a model for the sacred reality at every level. Ritual, aesthetics and symbols of the mandala are expressions of the five energies: through the directions, colors, seed syllables, emotions, psychological types and above all through the five wisdoms.

This year, the new book by Lama Tsültim Alione appears:

The five Dakinis – the heavenly powers of Buddhism

Schiwa Lamsab night retreat

During seven nights the group intensively practices the long Schiwa-Lamsab Chöd practice in four sessions. In the in-between sessions the participants practice the saddhana of Prajnaparamita, the Mother of Wisdom. The participants sleep during the day.

This very old form of retreat is carried out by the Choir-pas (Chöd practitioners) according to the Schiwa Lamsab tradition. The Venerable Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche is present throughout the week and attends some of the meetings.

After a week of intensive practice, Rinpoche gives the retreat group the initiation of the Tröma Nagmo – the wrathful black Dakini, according to Schiwa Lamsab tradition.

Prerequisite for taking the course is the Chöd initiation according to Schiwa Lamsab tradition.

Chöd Introduction according to Wensa Tradition

The Wensa Chöd practice is from the collection of Manjushris after a very secret practice of the Lama Tsongkhapa. It was transferred by Lama Tsongkhapa, with some masters in between, to the great master Gyelwa Ensapa Losang Döndrup, the 1st Panchen Rinpoche. Now it was called Wensa Chöd.

Chöd is a unique holistic training system within Tibetan Buddhism that trains body, speech and mind at the same time with the help of meditation, visualization, sound and rhythm. Chöd means: cutting off selfish, habitual thinking and behavior so that the natural openness, clarity and sensitivity of our mind can manifest itself.

The great teaching of the Chöd goes back directly to Buddha Shakyamuni and is therefore based on Buddhist philosophy, the Lam Rim/Step Path to Enlightenment, the Middle Way, Mahamuda or Dzogchen.

In the morning Lodrö Rinpoche gives explanations about the practice and in the afternoon the participants learn/exercise the drumming and the old melodies of the text visualization. In the evening the group practices Chöd practice together with Rinpoche.

In Tibet, advanced Chöd practitioners were able to support, heal and even fight epidemics.

In the Meditation Centre Ganden Chökhor, under the direction of Venerable Lama Lodrö Rinpoche, a multi-year training course on the transmission lines of the Chöd (Wensa-, Schiwa Lamsab- and Gyälthang- and Tsogle Chöd) is offered.
